I went from the 5th gen to the 6th gen and the main difference is power and torque. I went with the hybrid model Trail Hunter and the different in power is night and day. The 5th gen engine has always been underpowered with a terrible transmission. I drive a lot in the mountains and it always...
I also have the Trail Hunter, didn't even consider airing down going over Engineer pass or Poughkeepsie gulch since the these Toyo tires aren't even c-rated. I was surprised at how well they did on Poughkeepsie gulch, not as well as my Jeep Wrangler did but pretty darn well. Since I want to keep...

Since the battery in the 4Runner is not a lithium ion battery but a nickel metal hydride battery, it's not as much of an issue. You're not going to have thermal runaway on a nickel metal hydride battery like you would on lithium. You never really hear about battery fires with nickel metal...
Pretty rare for an infotainment screen to fail because of heat, they are engineered for that. It seems like going to all the trouble to cover the screen why not just use a sunscreen in the window, that will also protect your dash. I have window tinting on my Trail Hunter and that helps immensely...
An all Toyota garage. 2025 4Runner Trail Hunter and a 2006 Toyota Matrix (daily driver). Was glad to find out that both vehicles use the same Toyota oil filter. After 2 and 1/2 months I only have 500 mi on the 4Runner, 200k on The Matrix. The Matrix is more fun to drive and has a better stereo...
Looks great! What size KO3s did you go with? I have the trail Hunter and I'm not really into those bronze Wheels thinking about upgrading both tires and wheels.
It certainly won't hurt it especially sticking with techron which is made by Chevron. Those fuel stations you mentioned are on the top tier fuel list, and I do use techron in mine if I'm spending weeks in the back country with the no name mom and pop gas stations around. Shell also has some of...
If you use top tier fuel there is usually no need for fuel injector cleaner. That being said if you live in a rare area that doesn't have top tier fuel Techron has been proven to be one of the very best ones. A list of gas stations that carry top tier fuel can be found here...
I drove both the hybrid and the gas only to get an idea of power. I ended up with the trail hunter primarily because I do a lot of high altitude off-roading and that extra horsepower and torque will come in handy, especially pulling a trailer. It's a huge upgrade over the 5th gen, that old V6...
Also, until recently I was using a satellite phone when in the backcountry which was more reliable for for emergencies. Now the cell phones connect to satellite and the gmrs for close-end communications works well.
I'll never need it again, got rid of all my equipment.
I do have a license for gmrs, although I noticed almost no one ever uses their call letters or follows the rules on it.
Yeah the 4Runner as a daily driver is definitely a good choice. I drove a first generation 4Runner for 21 years and have now gone back to it mainly for the off-roading ability in the mountains of Colorado. Porsche 911 turbo is my daily driver. Just haven't had that much luck with motorhomes...
Aren't all 4Runners gas LOL. It seems like a lot of trouble to pull a 4Runner behind an rv with a drive shaft disconnect. Why not just get a vehicle that's built to do that like a Jeep Wrangler. While I'm not a big fan of Jeep, I pulled a Wrangler behind my motorhome for 10 years with no issues...
Although I have a ham license I think gmrs is more useful. I'm going to let my license expire eventually. In the back country in Colorado gmrs will get you help quicker than ham radio will. Since cell phones connect to satellite now ham radio is obsolete. Set up a good 50 w gmrs radio in the...
There are plenty of scientific type websites out there that say the exact opposite of what that video said. You have to take that with a grain of salt, the engineers at Toyota specified what to put in the vehicle and they designed it for that fuel. Minor horsepower gains are not worth the...
