Long time since owning a car where I paid close attention to the exterior. I noticed my first tiny paint dings on my 2025 heritage blue sport premium when washing the car yesterday. I understand that the paint code is 8X0. It looks like I need the colorcoat and clearcoat.

Any good or bad experiences ordering touch up paint?

That's really bizarre! Here's what shows up for me:

So Google's AI contradicts itself on the same question, asked only a few minutes apart. I wonder how often Google AI "answers" contradict based on the location of the person asking (that's the only real difference between them).

DON'T TRUST AI... I've found AI wrong more than I found it correct. Especially asking anything about the 6GR.

isnt there a clear coat on pretty much every paint colour now?

i.e. that's how you buff surface (clear coat) scratches out?

Tried your link again and got a different response. Yikes. Flakey.

Single stage isn't used much anymore for US cars but it's still used (maybe more for some foreign makes). There's nothing fundamentally wrong with single stage paint (I had an early 2000's vehicle and its single stage white looked just as good as new at ~15 years when I sold it), and I imagine modern single stage paints are better than a couple/few decades ago.

It's also true that there's nothing fundamentally superior about 2-stage paint. You can have a car with 2 stage paint, with a crappy, soft clear coat that will show scratches and swirls just from barely wiping it, that a good single stage wouldn't show. Also, you can definitely buff scratches out of single stage paint, as long as the scratches don't reach the primer or bare metal. With 2-stage, you should only buff/abrade to just before the end of the clearcoat depth (not an easy thing to do), and if that doesn't remove the scratch, not much can be done.

A body shop guy once told me use the paint pen onto a smooth plastic plate, then take an old paper match end and use that to touch up dab. (minor paint on the paper end)

Dab and let dry, build up slowly with minimal use.

Wet sand and buff.

xxx ? xxx ?

work for me when I did not wrap my vehicles in PPF.

Small chips are best repaired with the Toyota dealer's touch-up paint. It is worth the cost, and the match is perfect. It has always been for me, but every picture tells a story.
