One more complaint on the excessive beeping. If you put it on jack stands and in neutral so you can rotate the rear driveshaft for lubricating the zerk fittings, the vehicle alarms the whole time. If anyone knows how to turn this off, please let me know! I couldn't find any way to change this...
Pros:
Still seems built for 4Runner reliability (I drove my previous gen 3 for 21 years). Any non-Toyota options were dismissed due to long term reliability concerns. Plus anything with a removable top (Jeep or Bronco) were a no-go due to noise at freeway speeds. It was 4R, Land Cruiser or...
I have a Pro and put on the Greenlane sliders. Same as you I mainly use them as steps but wanted the protection on the few times I do harder off-road trails just as insurance. If you're doing regular rock bashing, steel is better but for me I wanted "just in case" protection and corrosion...
Same thing happened to me. The OEM tires are just SL rated (weak sidewalls) and less tread depth too so even a new SL tire wouldn't fully match and they are more expensive despite only being good for about 1/2 the miles of a regular SL Toyo tire. I just put my spare on so I have 4 matching...
Thanks for the head's up. What do you mean by resonance? And you say it's under load in a higher gear. So it's not an issue under "normal" driving? I don't drive hard so hopefully the AWE is an improvement for me. The Pro exhaust droning around 40-60mph at low RPM/minimal acceleration is...
I'm getting the AWE OFG exhaust soon (installing this week) to replace my TRD Pro exhaust. The TRD Pro exhaust sounds good except for the droning which, like some others, I dislike.
Curious as to why you didn't like it at first. Can you explain? I'm considering the tune as well. My main concern was long-term reliability (having assumed Toyota's conservative tune helps with reliability) but in my research I couldn't find data on the OTT ever causing issues and it's...
It's completely normal according to Car Care Nut. It's the EVAP system (or maybe others) working properly. Mine does it as well. You don't need to be concerned.
Your confusion is warranted. My Pro says 895lb payload capacity on the door sticker. The GVWR is listed as 6505 lbs. The curb weight is apparently 5455lbs based on searching but is not listed on the door sticker (which would give your 1050 payload). I'd go by the listed payload of 895lb but...
I'm using a bottle of Techron every 5000 miles (to keep with my oil change interval). Can't really hurt and it's cheap. I also use Top Tier fuel. Between that and Toyotas combined fuel injection approach, I feel very confident there will be minimal build-up.
Your call of course. You can do whatever you want. I personally like the look of the 4Runner better but they are both nice looking vehicles. I have a TRD Pro so it's a hybrid already. Don't expect the hybrid to get better MPG since the 4R seems to get the same MPG hybrid or non-hybrid and...
Thanks for the full list. But I would argue Toyota did a really good job with their Pro upgrades this time. The Fox 2.0 suspension is a lot nicer than the old pro fox suspension. I don't see any need to replace/upgrade and this is worth thousands. The wheels and tires are great. I don't see...
For those that notice the "orange peel" on the bottom of the doors, just know that is normal. Toyota puts extra layers of paint there for protection since that's where a lot of rocks will kick up when driving. It's not a defect.
Outside of that, modern vehicle paints are pretty poor given...
I also wouldn't worry about the sunroof. I drove a 2002 4Runner for 21 years and never once had a problem with the sunroof. And Toyota hybrid batteries are fantastic. The old school chemistry used in the 4Runner doesn't have a lot of power density (about half that of lithium by weight) but it...
Another option is a hitch basket since you have a soft bag vs hard rooftop carrier. Harbor freight has one for $60 and it'd be even easier to add/remove when you need it. Your crossbar wind noise concern disappears too.
