So I haven’t seen anybody post yet about a dashcam install so I thought I would share mine.

I chose to go with the Garmin Mini 3 and bought a plug and play wiring harness from Amazon that will take power from the mirror. Seen videos about this for the 4th gen taco, so I assumed it would work for the 6th gen 4R.

Use some good pressure on the plastic cover behind the mirror, pull out the middle piece, then the larger cover. The larger cover was a challenge. Gotta pop the top portion on both sides then slide down. You can pretty much follow any 4th gen Tacoma dash cam install but here is a picture of the wiring harness plugged into the 10 pin (red arrow). I just stuffed the wiring harness up there and fed the usb through the opening for the mirror.

Finished result, hope this is useful.

Power Adapter I used: mangoal Dashcam Power Adapter... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CYZQ1VMC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

ok, so when you say you took power from the mirror - are you saying you had the digital mirror? As in, this won't work if you don't have the digital mirror?

So if you’re talking about the digital mirror that comes with the tow package, ours did not come with that option. It does have the garage door openers at the bottom of the rear view mirror though.

So you are saying there is a power source for the mirror. Sorry for getting hung up on that, but I am trying to figure out what you are talking about.

Yeah, red arrow in the 2nd photo is pointing to the 10 pin connector which is the power to the mirror.

Does connecting to the rear view mirror power source deliver constant power that allows you to use the parking feature?

Thanks OP for the writeup. I went ahead and ordered the same wiring harness and it works great. Also have a Garmin mini.

I wanted to reiterate the point of the large panel behind the rearview mirror being a challenge.

I pulled it the wrong way and snapped off this plastic piece.

I did not pull hard or anything, this piece is just pretty fragile. You need to slide the panel down following the slope of the windshield. I messed up by pulling it towards me away from the windshield.

Thankfully a bit of superglue seemed to do the trick in getting it back on.

This is how it looked after hooking up the harness. I didn't want the USB box (pictured on the left) to go outside the housing. That's what most of the Youtube videos tell you to do. I wanted a very clean look. So as you can see there is room to tuck in that USB box/dongle underneath the other wiring. Then it's just a matter of tucking in the harness. All you have to do is slide the panel back on while tucking everything in. Then, like the OP did, I ran the USB cable out through the mirror arm opening.

End result looks like this.

Super flush, and from most angles there's no visible USB cable.
