I have just noticed tire squeal when doing a slow full lock turn in parking lots. 2k miles and have not noticed before. Does it on right and left turns. Full lock and close to full lock.

in 2WD.

SR5, standard wheels and tires. No lift or other mods.

I have and had a few new vehicles and don't remember this happening.

Is this normal?

thanks in advance.

well ya it's normal. maximum friction on tires is when you are turning
as both sides of the tire can only rotate at one speed, but physics
wants the inner side of footprint to go slower than the outer side

across the width of the tire footprint while turning
the inner side would need to turn slower than the outer side,
it cannot, so you get scrubbing

think of it as a one-tire width version of what happens when you
lock the rear axle, and try to turn on pavement, you must fight to steer as
the inner tire to the turn wants to go slow and the outside tire must move
faster. they cannot go different speeds, so you get huge slipping and friction

a single tire experiences the same inner-outer friction every time you turn
only on a smaller scale, but it's there.

go to a nice parking garage with smooth floors, and listen to all cars and trucks squeal
and squeak just navigating at walking speeds

----

and the other thing, at max lock, you could touch steering stops and when
steering stops are touching and you hit a bump, it can squeal. my tacoma
will do this at max turn and if I hit a bump

Thanks for comprehensive answer to a dumb question :). I guess I am getting paranoid with folk reporting problems.
