For those who removed running boards and have aggressive tires, rock chips???

I have left the OEM running boards on my TRD OR simply for paint protection. I don't use them for anything else and would actually prefer them be gone. Was kinda waiting for sliders to help prevent rock chips on the rockers but curious. Has anyone removed their running boards with aggressive tires and noticed excessive rocks hitting the body? (I'm talking like gravel/logging road 3/4 minus type rocks. Not boulders for climbing.)
