Since a week or two my front & back seat dome lights no longer turn on when a door is opened, even though the switch is in the door position. The lights do light if you switch to the on position or press them individually.

The cargo area does come on when you open the back door.

... wait, a week or so ago I replaced all the speakers, so I had all the door panels off. Maybe I missed a plug.

All the window, lock, and mirror controls are working on the driver door panel.

Took the driver door panel off again, no missing mystery plugs. All fuses good. The lights turn on with the switch.
The computer senses the door open/close state because it shows the door open on the guage display.
But just the dome lights don't come on from ooening any of the front 4 doors.
I wonder if it could be the wiring harness to the radio for the beatsonic amp and the anytime camera switch. That would crazy but these days every modern car is 50% made of terrible engineering decisions, so who knows, totally possible.

Did you figure this out? The dome lights are also suppose to turn on when you approach the vehicle.

You made wiring changes to your 4runner, broke something, but it's Toyota's fault. LOL

for 30 bucks you can access techinfo.toyota.com and get all
the wiring diagrams for that 4runner

We don't know who's fault it is, because we don't know what the fault is.

The probably-imaginary thing I conjectured would be crazy regardless what else happened or who did it. The two things, how Toyota wired something, and whether anything I did broke it, which remember are both still just unknowns and guesses, have no bearing on each other. A fragile vs a robust design is the fault of the designer absolutely, yes, not the user who ran into unecessary land mines left by a thoughtless designer, "lol".

It might also be my fault but totally unrelated to wiring, because I also futzed around in the computer while shutting off the seat belt alarms and fake engine sounds.

did you figure this out ? was it a setting or preference in combo meter, or headunit, or on OBD-II, or physical switch ?

Haven't dug into it yet other than what I said before taking the driver door panel back off. There is no obvious physical switch like on old cars, but whatever the switch is, it's working fine because the dash shows it.

I'll have to pull the radio and remove the 2 different wiring harnesses, one for the beatsonic amp and one for the anytime backup camera. Probably also remove the DCM bypass, just to put it all back to stock before going to the dealer. The dcm bypass didn't cause it because I did that well before and no problems.

At least it's all actually real easy to do and undo.
