For the first few months, I cursed the dumb Toyota assistant every time I went to long press the steering wheel control and forgot to hold it long enough to activate Siri instead. Toyota really needs an option to just disable that awful assistant forever. Eventually, I trained myself to hold it long enough to avoid any wasted time accidentally triggering the antiquated Toyota assistant. Life was good.
About 2 weeks ago, I noticed a new issue where Siri is no longer prompted during the long press on the steering wheel button. I'll get an orange dot under the battery status on Carplay instead of Siri/Apple Intelligence being triggered. Something funky is going on with the request.
If I power cycle the Toyota console, it usually starts working normally again. This has been happening on and off for a few weeks without any rhyme or reason. Running iOS 18. ORP, wireless carplay.
Has anyone else noticed this? Without any updates to my iOS device or the Toyota entertainment system, I'm unable to determine what might have caused this.
