Weight of rear seats = 150 lbs in Trailhunter

No wonder the payload numbers are not impressive.

I took the rear seats out for a camping modification and to allow for more cargo area for gear, and thought to my self, holy sh*t, these things are heavy! Much more so than my previous gen 5 TRD offroad.

They are nice seats, but wondering how they compare to the other models weight-wise.

5th gen i think the 2nd row rear seats were around 85 lbs per section, so around 170 lbs i think.

another old post they weighed about 50 lbs per section x 2 without the hardware.

3rd row was like 100 lbs for the whole unit.

How much of a pain was it to get them out? I never have passengers so have thought about just removing them.

its not the removal that is the issue (its still really involved on the non HV models), its the jury rig to level the load floor after your remove them.

Not very hard. You need to pry off the plastic covers at the base of the seats in front and back, then disconnect the electric plug, then remove the four bolts (each side)
Honestly, the hardest part for me was wrestling those heavy things out of the car.
Yes, the floor is uneven, but with a foam pad to go beneath my fridge, and a few leveling blocks, that extra storage space is very welcome

Yep. I also disabled the rear seat warnings using Carista first. And plugged up the bolt holes with silicone 10mm plugs.

To cover the space, I bought a piece of Minicell T200 closed cell foam at foambymail.com, cut it to shape using electric turkey knife and my wife made a zippered cover for it from 500 denier coated cordura nylon bought at therainshed.com. The bottom has strategically placed Velcro hook strips to attach to the carpet below. It works great and the pad does not budge. It has a bit of an overhang to hide the carpet cutouts.

The foam is firm enough to span the holes and indentations, but has just a bit of a give so that items don't slide wildly on it. The textured cordura helps too.

We chose 1" thick foam to match the lip on the PIO rubber cargo mat, but I imagine thinner foam would work as well.
