I finally caught a perfect clip of the noise that’s driving me nuts. Anyone else have this noise and resolved it. It only really happens below freezing temps and after the car warms up. Dealerships have been absolutely useless.
You are correct, it’s not the arm rest it’s the assembly around the shifter, #2 “console box assembly” is required for removal. Here is also the quote from Toyota to do the replacement.
Trust me, I went through the same thought process. You have to remove an unbelievable amount of shit to get to that lens. I have the service manual and it is a complete bear, the fucking center compartment (where you rest your arm) has to completely come out with a shit ton of dash trim pieces...
I have this weird resonance vibration noise coming from my drivers side front as well. 2 dealerships can’t figure it out. Honestly they are useless for noises, they don’t give a F.
My problem with that piece is that right in the middle I have two low points where the light refracts differently (looks like two dings), but the paint and clear are perfect in those spots. Initially I thought they were just clip points that shrunk during winter but in the service manual there...
That’s exactly what it was with my noise, I keep seeing posts about it. It glitches out and makes weird noises. The Tacoma forums have a bunch of posts too.
Completely with you on the noise, it’s super intrusive as well. Once it’s off it’s much quieter in the cabin, I knew immediately that was the issue once it was off. You can hear the engine but all the sounds come much more in-front and center as it should. 4-cylinder sounds fine.
Update for those who run into this in the future:
I figured out the source of the noise, it is the Engine Sound Enhancement System. After some research I discovered many 2024 Tacoma owners experienced issues where the system would glitch out and play the same noise repeatedly at some RPM...
I’ve been trying to diagnose a weird noise that has started happening on my ORP Hybrid. Around 1500 RPM I’ll get this weird flub/fluttery/vibe noise; started noticing it the last few times I’ve driven it and especially since it’s gotten colder in the Midwest. It seems to be coming from the front...
Thats what I’ve noticed as well, the black trim pieces scratch super easily. I have just accepted the fact that it’s pretty much inevitable and if they get super bad they are pretty easy to replace (OEM and aftermarket options).
