  1. Rear view digital mirror retrofit install?

It's actually great at night as it can filter out headlight glare.
  2. Hybrid vs. Gas Non-Hybrid Dyno Comparison - Stock HP / LB-FT Real World Numbers! (87 Octane)

In reality, you get a power boost due to the 2.4 being a higher compression turbo engine. It can take advantage of the increased octane rating.
  3. Brake fluid, how often to flush/change?

Initially 3 years from new, then 2 year intervals thereafter is the conservative recommendation. At least, this is what is recommended by most brands. It's very easy to do if you have a jack and some basic tools, all you need is an empty bottle and some vinyl tubing:
  4. Brakes squeal horribly backing out of driveway each day

Generally, brake squeal is due to insufficient lubrication of the pads and bearing surfaces on the calipers of the brakes system. I have a BMW with semi metallic pads, brembo style brakes calipers, and giant 14" front discs, it doesn't squeal at all since I replaced the brakes and made extra...
  5. Weathertech Floor Liners and Cargo Mat installed in 5-Seat 2025 4Runner 6th gen

These do look significantly better than the OEM ones...
  6. Real World MPG by Owners (gas non-hybrid 4Runner) - Post Yours ⛽️

1st tank of fuel since picking up the car last Tuesday Unknown octane (guess 85) 200mi 19.1mpg
  7. This motor sounds bad. Is it an issue?

Loud injectors have been a known quantity in new generation direct injection engines since at least 2012 with the BMW N20. 91 is $0.60 more per gallon here than 85. Easily worth it
  8. Visual reminder to oil change during break in (at 1000 miles)

Funny the people who recommend against 10m oil changes are the people who profit from additional work. USA is on 10ppm ultra low sulphur gasoline as of 2021. Same as Central Europe where they run 2yr/18.5k mi intervals. On the topic at hand, I like a 1k initial short change simply because it...
  9. How long before the 3.4L engine shows up in Tacoma, 4Runner, Land Cruiser

Sure this is often cited as an Achilles heel but you'd be hard pressed to find an example online of a failed belt. Ford seems smart enough to use the appropriate rubber compound for wet environments.
  10. How long before the 3.4L engine shows up in Tacoma, 4Runner, Land Cruiser

If you want to be completely fair , the 2.7 bi turbo V6 by Ford is better than virtually any Toyota engine. It's well proven as Ford has been doing aluminum body, turbo V6 trucks for 15 yrs now. That being said, the new Ranger is a very well received vehicle and is solid as a Hilux. It's a...
  11. 87 or 91 Octane

91 if you're at altitude. 87 at sea level is fine for cruising around. Don't bother with BG snake oil, just quality fuels like Costco, Exxon, or Shell.
  12. Which Wildpeak AT4 Tires for My Use Case?

Bridgestone also recently released their new Dueler Ascent A/T if you’d like another option. Reviews are extremely positive so far on TireRack and Tophers channel with the best snow grip out of 9 tires tested. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testDisplay.jsp?ttid=337
  13. What Gas Octane Level Required For iForce Max Hybrid - 87 or 91?

87 AKI 91 RON AKI is the measurement used by the United States, which is an average of RON and MON. RON is used in the rest of the world as the standard. I’d use premium 91/93 AKI in the US personally, as the turbo can take advantage of it and it’s not much more $.
  14. 6th Gen + Snow = Amazing

Sure, like the video says. Not a problem in day to day traffic in Denver when you're barely putting load on the engine while commuting. But putting 90 - 100% load at altitude in a turbo car may cause problems. Owners manual says minimum 87 octane, regardless of what the fuel cap says. Toyota...
  15. 6th Gen + Snow = Amazing

To make a point, you shouldn't be using 85 octane in turbo charged cars at altitude. It's fine if you're running around town doing 2-3k rpm tops, but up in the mountains under load you can suffer some serious engine problems. I'm planning on using 89 or 91 octane exclusively.
  16. Outrageous dealer prices currently

Sure, very different world there. I just came back from a month in South Africa where I had a 2.8 GD6 Toyota Fortuner rental. I'm well aware of what Toyota withholds from the North American market, and is primarily why I'd never buy a 3rd gen Tacoma or 5th gen 4Runner when living at altitude...
  17. Outrageous dealer prices currently

In 1996, this 4runner would have cost you $70,000 in 2025 dollars: https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/comparison-test/a63498398/1996-acura-ford-jeep-land-rover-nissan-oldsmobile-toyota-suvs-archive-test/ And for all that you got a 183hp, 16mpg V6, optional cruise control, power locks, etc.
  18. Concerns about dealers using Bulk Engine Oil and AZ Filters?

Right, however there's a distinction in Euro formula oil vs the plain jane version. You'll see on the shelves at auto parts stores or Walmart that there is a Euro formula available in the same grades as the regular version. Euro builders have their own stringent approval process on top of the...
  19. Concerns about dealers using Bulk Engine Oil and AZ Filters?

Toyota OEM oil is made by Mobil 1, as far as I know. Toyota also does not list a Toyota sanctioned specification for oil in general, unlike GM, Ford, or the European brands but rather just says use ILSAC GF6A with a weight of 0w-20. This is a broad category, and does not take into account...
