My experience with this engine is in a LC (mid trim, Premium package) and a 2024 Tacoma Limited hybrid.
Both were quiet enough to drown it out with just the dash speaker(s) barely turned up.
The 4.0 is an underpowered wheezy noise factory that nobody in the history of ever has ever said sounds great.
It's fantastically reliable and just f'n works. Legendary status was long ago achieved. Absolute unit of reference for reliable and well built mills. But your barometer is broken if...
Oh for sure. HOAs are the debbil.
And I'm talking mad smack for a guy that will also have to pull through a single bay door. It's the third of a three-car, but it's still that tiny door. I don't bother currently because I'd have to do a three point turn just to get lined up with the door in my...
If I had a two-car garage with a center pillar, I'd buy a TRD OR instead of a Pro, and use the leftover money to convert my two garage doors into one. :D
Hahaha! My Tundra is a "TSS" package. There wasn't really confusion about that in 2013 though LOL
I knew it was stickers and wheels and a couple of tech bits on an SR5 when I bought it, but I liked the wheels and it was the bright red color that I love. Plus, with the incentives available at...
I'm sure the region comes into play a lot too. I'm a mid-sized market I guess (OKC metro area). There are Tacomas that have been on the lots here for six months. There's at least one Trailhunter that's been physically sitting at my closest dealer for more than a month and a Pro that's been on...
I needed something for a week long thing, and a Toyota dealership by me rents...Well...Toyotas. So I rented a hybrid Tacoma (they only had a Limited, but I wasn't that picky), because it was identical to the 4Runner in all ways, forward of the B-pillar anyway. I wanted to see if I could live...
I use Android, so I can also confirm for others reading this that it does exist for us too.
At least it did on the 24 Limited Tacoma I had for a week lol
Nothing in this post is correct.
Not all 4Runners have 4x4, a couple of trims have AWD just like the LandCruiser. It's a completely different transfer case setup, and it's what the OP wants.
AWD is NOT brake applied. That would be traction control, MTS or something similar.
If I'm not mistaken, the OffRoad(s), Trailhunter, and Pro are the only trims that come with the rear locker and Multi Terrain Select/other off-road modes. That's huge (on paper) if you do anything more than fire roads.
GST is one of the biggest reasons I haven't bought a new Toyota in the last few years.
They insist on 2-5 thousand dollars worth of garbage on every truck and SUV before they ship to the dealers. And that's on top of the 20-30% the price of the truck has increased directly from Toyota. Gulf...
It sits in the same place as it did.
It will never truly compete in hard core off-roading. But it's better in pretty much every other measurable metric. Carries more, tows better, more space, quieter, more comfortable, more reliable (only time will tell here, but they all have track records)...
