That’s great! It sounds like a wonderful trip. Someone recommended using tow/haul while on the interstate to stop the 7/8, 8/7 gear hunting, and I believe it helps the fuel mileage a bit. Most trips my wife and I take are a 50/50 combo of interstate and highways with stop and go traffic, so I...
This is my first 4Runner, and I plan to keep it 20+ years. Something tells me the hybrid battery and/or the sunroof will cause the most headache over the long term. Anything I’ve ever had with a sunroof, it was a disaster at some point. I’ve also been on this forum and 6G4R FB pages long...
Everyone has their opinion, and it’s been debated and discussed ad nauseam. Read all the opinions, watch the videos, do some research and do what you think is best. I’ve been beat up one minute and praised the next for my choices! Good luck!
If you plan on keeping it forever, stay away from the hybrid and a sunroof. The battery will eventually require replacing, and the sunroof will eventually leak. I went with the ORP as it seemed to be the best value.
I installed it, and I like it! I was hoping for some MPG gains, but that didn’t happen. There is noticeably better performance in my opinion. After this was seated for a few months, I got a OTT tune, so it’s really peppy now! I did lose about half a MPG with the tune.
I decided to have a few of the early and often oil changes - 1k, 3k and 5k. I had the dealership take care of the 10k. However, I noticed the oil was looking pretty dark, so I might change to every 3-4k - probably 2 3,500 mile changes and a 3,000 mile change. Here’s my reasoning…
Talk to your OTT tuning representative. Mine shared that he’s never had to reverse a tune for a customer, and he’s done thousands. If anything goes sideways on you, the tune can be removed. The fact OTT is nationwide and has done hundreds of thousands of tunes also gives me peace of mind.
I do most of my driving in eco mode. The shifting benefits are in that mode as well. Sport is where you will really feel the performance gains!
Some say they get better fuel mileage in normal or even sport. I’ve tried them all, and eco works best for me. If I’m in sport though, my driving...
Any lift will require an alignment. I went with a 1.5 inch on the front only. It took a few months before I could get it aligned, because the alignment wasn’t even available at the dealership or anywhere else. So, it wasn’t far out.
I’m in the non-hybrid and echoing everything you’re saying. It’s so much smoother in shifting, and there’s no turbo lag. I’ll put this thing up against some V8s once I’m done with my build. Future enhancements include the intercooler and turbo inlet from SXTH Element. There was a rumor of a...
Congratulations! These are some great numbers and right where I was expecting the HP to be with tuning, the CAI and intercooler combined. I’m looking forward to seeing how this turns out with more SXTH Element engineering. All the best!
It’s probably going to be much lower than anything else you have ever owned. There’s about a 3 gallon reserve at empty. Mine has come on once at 20 miles left. Being someone who typically refills with a quarter tank left, I struggle to let it fall much below 50 miles.
@SXTH Element sells an aftermarket intercooler, so most likely someone has installed that. I’m not so sure about a transmission cooler. I’ve seen others ask about one, but I’m doubtful anyone has even developed one of those yet.
Here’s another video. Keep the oil changed, and you will be fine. I am in the habit of checking my oil due to the age of my other vehicles. I’m currently at 8,200 miles on the 4Runner, and I had the oil changed at 1k, 3k and 5k (that’s a whole other topic - early and often oil changes)...
There are a few things that should have also been done IMO that weren’t mentioned.
1. Differential service every 30-40k
2. Radiator flush, brake and power steering fluids every 30k
3. Transmission fluid drain and refill every 50k
