I totally agree. However, I think there is issues with fitting the battery into a full body on frame vehicle. Plus you need more motors and electric hardware. It makes it hard to do while also keeping all the existing drivetrain hardware customers expect from a body on frame Truck/SUV.
The only trims that have pictures or been presented to media are the Limited, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter. Those might be the only prototypes they have built. We will likely get more information and another press event this summer sometime when they get more built and start to spool up the...
I've seen reviews of the Tacoma (which should be the same) saying that it does use electric power steering. However, they also commented that there was still a good deal of feedback to the driver. He was overall very positive on it.
Unfortunately, I don't think that is the case. Here is a zoom in of the center console on the 4Runner limited. It is a crop from the press material. As you can see, there is no rear diff lock control. You can see the settings on the 4wd shifter (L4L, H4L, and H4F) showing that it is a full time...
The reviews that I've seen on the non-hybrid suggest that there is not much turbo lag anyway. Thus, I would expect the electric motor to completely negate what is left.
Sorry. What I was thinking about in my head was not having a rear locker where as the TRD trims (or at least the Off-Road trim) will. It probably still has a limited slip diff though. So yes, not that much of a difference. The locking center diff basically makes it the same as any 4wd that...
From what I've seen of Tacoma reviews, there really is not much noticeable turbo lag in the non-hybrid 4 cylinder. I expect any that is there will be completely removed by the electric motor.
@TheBat is right. Traditional 4x4 don't have center differentials. That is why they are part time only. If they had one they could be engaged all the time. However, that also comes with limitations as it would mean all power would be sent to a single wheel if it had no traction.
Baiscally, the...
