As long as you have a couple of soft plastic pry tools, it's not too bad. Fold the mirror in, start from the bottom corner near the hinge, and just work around the bottom until it snaps out.

I just measured mine, and it's about 29" from the raised floor for the hybrid batteries, and the rubber trim at the top of the rear hatch opening.

Perhaps you could put a foam pad on the 1Up bike rack where the rear hatch would make contact so that if it does accidentally open, it won't cause any damage to either the rack or the car?
