The way I can tell is switching between normal and sport when going up the hill @ 25mph towards home. Very noticeable difference in sound, kinda hilarious actually.

I have a Magnaflow exhaust on my 4th gen and I find it somewhat loud and obnoxius, but the intake noise on the Trailhunter is nothing like that.

My trailhunter has a switch for this light left of the steering wheel. It's a three way switch, on - auto - off, like a dome light switch. If yours has the same switch, did you bump it into the "on" setting by chance?
