On my 3rd Gen Tacoma there was a recall for fires. I had my dealer test it each fall just to make sure and all was fine. I haven’t heard of any recall for the 4Runner.
I have run battery blanket and oil pan heater on different vehicles and those work great too.
It may be my lack of understanding things in general but wouldn’t having a thermostat-less transmission mean that your always running it cooler cause it’s always flowing?
I could be completely out to lunch here though sorry.

I haven’t had any issue with mud and dirt from off-roading with the SR5 wheels. Deep snow or slush/ice never made any noise or issues either.

I have the Toyota block heater. Works great in the -30c we have only dealt with for a bit where I live in Canada.
I have gone with the heated pads others have mentioned too on different vehicles and they work great as well.
I have taken my SR5 on a bunch of trails and spots that made me nervous for my skill level and 4lo was extremely impressive and got me through no issues. I don’t think I will wheel hard enough to need a locker which is why I went SR5 vs OR but this thing is still impressive.
