By "adding 10A load to the original ignition" meaning to the power coming to the fuse block? That is what I am trying to make clear to myself. If that, I agree. That extra current, though, should not be pulling through the original fuse.
Good writeup. I am a bit confused though--was the add-a-fuse installed incorrectly? If not it should have been fine--both circuits are protected separately. That is, unless the underlying fuse box connection itself is overloaded by both loads in the same slot.
How does it affect fuel efficiency? Power/responsiveness is certainly nice, but my stock ORP Hybrid already has plenty of both even in Eco mode, so I would rather not trade out fuel efficiency. It is quite good for what it is (I get between 23.5 and 24 overall unless actually off-roading) but is...
Thanks @Papa Smurf, I almost mentioned opening front windows if you want the rear one open. I do not know for sure how much that would help but it does make sense to me.
Spot on about the fuel efficiency/AC. It is also much quieter with a/c! My parents did not have a/c in most of their vehicles...
Yeah, very high-pitch whine is probably the turbo (at least it does sound like that). I usually only hear it briefly as it spins up on acceleration, but I also have a high-pitch hearing loss so maybe it is blowing everyone else's ear drums ;-).
@Gumpus I think you are spot on, although one...
Mine is quiet. I doubt there is a clutch--I suspect it is all electric, at least on my ORP hybrid model (it continues to cool when the hybrid system is on but gas engine is not running)--not sure about the gas model. I can hear it running when I get out and A/C is on but gas engine is not...
I heed Toyota's (and other manufacturers I believe) that the rear window should always be up when driving/engine running. I am not sure how much of a concern that really is, especially if you have a front window open as well--seems to me air flow would tend to go out, not in, the rear...
"If the edges have more chalk than the center there is too little air. If the center has more chalk than the edges there is too much."
@Joestac I believe you wrote that backwards...I think you meant "If the edges have more *wear* than..." and "...center has more wear...."
You could just use a 120V 12V charger and use the 2400W outlets in your 4Runner. The only downside (maybe, although maybe not a problem) is that it is only active when the hybrid system is operating (that is, engine on so it can start/stop as needed).
I used to use Mobil 1 in my '84 Honda Civic that I bought new, made it to nearly 400,000 miles. Also in my Toyota Sienna I got used, but also almost 400,000 miles (and it was running fine but would not pass smog without significant repair...so excuse to upgrade to my current 4Runner). Now I tend...
I have the 4 Weathertech ones as well and have had no problems at all. I suppose the extra rubbing could scratch the very top of the window if there is grit in there, but really who cares? It would only be about 1/4" where you would almost never see it. As others have said, I followed the...
