Until you have to shut everything down to go out and get some groceries. I would rather have batteries or a home generator.

They have already said it will support bidirectional charging which is what this means. Of course it's light on details yet. It will have to also work in grid independent mode to be an emergency generator not just V2G, with a proper interface charger at a relatively high amperage capacity with supporting wiring.

A 2.0 L gas engine would make a very powerful no compromises generator, easily 60 or more amps.
They could have a V6 of V8

They could have like the RamCharger is doing, but they didn't.

When the Scout funding was approved by VW they were in the midst of an electrification push. The Scout is an EV first with a modular design small generator added when it became clear EV only was a liability for their market.

To put a larger engine in versus a small generator would cause lots of expensive design rework and threaten their delivery date.

They need to get a solid product out the door and use that revenue to decide where the next best product to invest in will be given the market then.
