I am having difficulty releasing the left driver side panel where it's circled in red in the first photo.
Where are people attaching the grounding wire from the Redarc?
Final question relating to posting in this forum - I typed a message to start this post and when I added the photos, the text disappeared. I must be doing something wrong??
TIA!
I have a Redarc Tow-Pro Elite brake controller kit for my 2025 TRD ORP being delivered on Friday and have the same questions on how to install. I'm worried about damaging something when I try to disassemble the plastic dash parts. Also where/how to mount the controller itself.
I asked Redarc tech support which switch insert to use for the two lowest switch blanks, their answer below did not confirm it will work.
"Maybe you could try using the TPSI-002 TowPro Toyota Switch Insert which is already included in the CIKTP-NA-012... I'm not sure this is a direct fit, however worth a try... "
Finished installation with a skilled friend (former airplane mechanic). We abandoned removing the left driver panel next to the door because it did not want to budge at the top right and we both agreed it just wanted to bend/break at that point. We removed the driver side door side floor panel and found a good spot to mount and ground. Redarc button pulses (Redarc manual describes as "breathing") blue when pushed which indicates power and sleep mode. My camper is 60+ miles away and I will test the connection this weekend. Contrary to other feedback, the blank switch modules don't come out the front/driver facing. They release from the back after pushing on the tabs.
I still want to understand why a vehicle that should be tow ready requires this level of effort. I think it's ridiculous and so did my friend. One of my local Toyota dealers told me they don't install non Toyota accessories and my local go-to hitch/towing place probably would not have taken apart the dash to install a brake controller there. They would have wanted to install it on the outside. I have a very inelegant DrawTite brake controller installation on my Jeep Wrangler 4 door - brake controller Velcro-ed on the top of the dash and brake controller pigtail running down the left side of driver dash along the door edge.
I removed the lower dash piece, the lowest, empty switch module, and the piece that starts left of the brake pedal and runs across the driver side door. I used a credit card and a laptop plastic pry tool to release the clips along the edge. If you must use a screwdriver, cover the dash pieces and seams with painter's tape to avoid scratches and other damage. Move very slowly across the seams to release the clips.
