Yea putting it in sport mode or tow mode on road on long windy mountain roads is what the dealer told me too which is ridiculous as sometimes the roads open up and I can actually gain speed and have to switch it around. I would have just bought a manual 4Runner if they still made them. As I've...
I have! It got me over the Smoky Mountains once the back way off road to Cataloochee. Great little car. And yes not steeper than a public road or anything a non-4WD can get up. The traction isn’t so much the issue as small road obstacles like rocks and things and also narrow blind corners you...
Sorry I'm a little late to this, I've taken a hiatus on a mountaintop that my Accord got me to cuz my 4Runner had these issues. Instances of overheating have happened both off-road (switched to 4L) and on-road (switched to manual 2S).
Transmission Shifter Position: "4HI" (off-road) and “D”...
Yea it's just challenging cuz I am not sure how many people are actually taking these things off road up mountains (yet, I know the 6th gen just came out). I got the same response from the dealer and Toyota to put it in S mode or 4L, I will say at least my dealer seems to actually care and...
And I assume the one the dealer created was assigned an official TAS case number and assigned to a TAS agent? At least then even though they gave you a bunch of BS it is officially logged. I have no idea what Toyota will do once they have more of these cases but maybe they will pay more...
Just took the 4Runner up a mountain on a narrow, paved road and the tranny temps started going up again so I put it in S mode (S2) which helped though it still got a little warm. I was going around 15- 20 mph (it was a narrow winding mountain road, so I wanted to avoid any head-on collisions)...
Yea I don't need to be driving that slow the whole way, I should be able to make it up a hill in 4H without having to switch back and forth between 4H and 4L every time I slow down for a rock
I was wondering if it was happening in the Land Cruiser, sorry you are experiencing it too. Yea, I know it can be a pain in the butt but taking it to the dealership and making sure they find it in the ROB and they file a case with Toyota seems to be the official way Toyota will keep a log of...
We got the OR Hybrid just so it could go a bit further and we wouldn't have to carry gas cans. We did the Pony Express trail in Utah and Nevada - total distance between gas stations was 343 miles and we probably would have made it but we went out of the way and got gas just to be cautious.
