This is how I have mine set up. Used 1/2” plywood, 2x4s, 3” memory foam and heavy duty carpet with waterproof backing. Sits almost flush with the rear seats folded and a few extra storage areas underneath. I have added a 24” rear bumper flap from Canvasback.
It blocks this circled area and fills the gap between the body and the frame. The area that’s circled are hose that go to the fuel tank which will be protected once the splash guards are installed

Mine has done it twice. I noticed that it if pressed inward and down at the same time like if you are leaning over it to get something. I'm looking at putting a small piece of Gorilla Tape over the little white button that clips in.
