  1. CD player for dummies

Yes I think this is the best way to go. I had never "ripped" anything in my life, and after a couple hours of web searching and testing, ripped my first CD to a thumb drive. I've now got more than 20 CDs on a single 32GB drive, with plenty of space left over. I posted a workable process in this...
  2. Recently discovered 6th gen behavior -- turn off accessory mode by pressing start button twice

Thanks for that info--this is my first push-to-start/stop car. And sorry if I'm beating a dead horse, but the reason I posted the original note is that it took me a year to realize that when that "not ready to drive" message comes up along with "push brake to start", I could just push start...
  3. Recently discovered 6th gen behavior -- turn off accessory mode by pressing start button twice

We are saying the same thing. When in accessory mode (which took ONE press to enable), it takes TWO presses to shut everything down. Sorry if I wasn't clear.
  4. Recently discovered 6th gen behavior -- turn off accessory mode by pressing start button twice

I just double-checked in my Off-Road to make sure I wasn't lying. In accessory mode (i.e. engine off), pressing the ON/OFF switch (no brake) says "not ready to drive, blah blah blah". I have to hit the ON/OFF button a second time (no brake) to turn off the accessory mode.
  5. Recently discovered 6th gen behavior -- turn off accessory mode by pressing start button twice

Loved the post here of the video describing arcane "TOYOTA 3-second rules". Though not a 3-second rule, here's something simple I only just discovered randomly. After enabling "accessory mode" (press the Start button without your foot on the brake), it always bugged me that the only way I could...
  6. Ripping CDs to a jump drive playable on 6th gen infotainment

Interesting. Does ripping to phone give all that same metadata indicated in my post? Note for e.g. Cyndi Lauper it even downloaded a picture of her. I should also have noted when playing the songs in the truck, it automatically moves on to the next song after each tune. "shuffle play" probably...
  7. Ripping CDs to a jump drive playable on 6th gen infotainment

Thanks to Ross for posting about hooking up a CD player to his 6th gen 4runner. Others pointed out it might be better to rip the CDs to a medium such as a jump drive. Having never "ripped" anything in my life, it took maybe an hour to figure out how to do it right. I've now got 15 albums ripped...
  8. Oil Dilution + Strong Gas Smell + Soot on Tailpipe + Poor Mileage

Do they have lemon laws in Canada? I'd say you should be entitled to a new vehicle since this is a serious problem going all the way back to delivery (right?), and potentially permanent damage already done. To say nothing of the hassle factor already incurred with more to come. Please report...
  9. Who's had their 6th gen for a year now? What do you love/hate?

Coming up on 1 year and 8K miles with the OR hybrid. Pros: o Power is awesome o Hybrid works great though it makes me wish for a bigger battery and traction motor. Stop/start feature is nice since the "start" part of the equation begins with traction motor and only after maybe 8mph the gas...
  10. Question about engine braking

Yes I would say if anything, the "pulsing" is more pronounced when the traction battery is fully charged. Possibly tangential to your comments, but absolutely the truck IS causing unnecessary burning of brake leather whenever going downhill and downshifting. The electronics apply unwanted...
  11. Question about engine braking

Yes by "instantaneous MPG meter" I meant the meter that's pegged at 60 in your example. I wonder if the "pulsing" requires a steeper downhill for a longer range than you've dealt with? I will say the pulsing isn't always consistent, sometimes it's there and sometimes it isn't, on the same hill...
  12. Question about engine braking

If the pulsing is not noticeable by feel, try turning on the instantaneous MPG meter while going down a steep hill. The pulsing can be seen when the needle bounces back and forth rapidly between maybe 25 and 45 MPG. I would think to just keep the engine running the MPG meter should be pegged at...
  13. Question about engine braking

Yes I see that pulsing too. It seems particularly pronounced when traction the battery is full (8 lit-up bars on the MAX meter). Annoying. Definitely prefer the behavior of my 3rd gen 4runner when manually downshifting immediately slows the car down, and no electronics adding unwanted power!

  15. 2026 4Runner Pricing / Changes / Updates / Colors - Official Announcement

I got my Off Road MAX in April for the $51,990. Based on comments here (e.g. no substantive changes for '26) and the fact that I've had no issues with the vehicle, I'm mostly happy with the decision to buy. Only consideration is perhaps ORP would have been worth the extra money due to added...
