Trying to get some advice here...
Bought a 25' 4Runner this past July. They charged me $997.00 for a ceramic coating that I found out they did not apply. When I confronted the dealership about it, they said they would send me an email I would need to sign - (basically a release form) agreeing to not make any posts about what happened and then they would refund the $997.00 back to me.

This same dealership here in the Portland area (where I purchased the vehicle), installed several accessories at the same time they were supposed to apply the ceramic coating. The parts department gave me a 25% discount on all the accessories when I ordered them, but when I went to pick up the vehicle they charged me full retail for every item.

Thoughts??

Bought mine there and even though I agreed to a price and put a deposit down while waiting for it to arrive, they put on a $995 ā€œceramic coatingā€ and tried to charge me for it. Itā€˜s basically a new tactic they use when negotiatating so they can say ā€œhey we’ll cut you a $1000 discount off by giving you this coating for freeā€. I was pretty pissed and eventually got them to admit they put it on without asking me.

Doubly frustrating as I was going to put a proper ceramic coating on as soon as I got home and now I couldn’t without doing a full polish to get that crappy spray they put on off first. Also, whatever it was they did apply was shit and didn’t do anything anyway.

These kinds of shenanigans are the reason I used a car broker/vehicle locating service. I got maybe not the lowest, but a decent price and did not have to set foot in a dealership and interact with these clowns. The vehicle did not have any dealer installed crap, only a few PIOs, most of which I would have wanted anyway.

Local Subaru place tries this. They sneak it into the sales tax. Luckily, my sales person is good and he took it off for me, why I bought three cars from him. Just a shame you have to be this careful.

Good to know. NOT happy with any of the Toyota dealerships in Portland.

Don’t sign anything. They cannot hold you hostage on money they owe you. Say you will seek legal remedy if they don’t pay you.

Then post who it is, that is the only way they will stop this behavior.
