I have been pleasantly surprised that my experience with the TSB - although unnecessarily cumbersome - has proven to work. In fact, it's worked so well, I don't even think about the squeal anymore.

I bought my TRD Sport 2WD in South Louisiana in early August - the pinnacle of humidity. I have since temporarily relocated to the DC area for work, so I blindly picked Alexandria Toyota to check out the problem, since they're closest to me. On the phone, they said they hadn't heard of this issue, but insisted I bring it in.

Appointment #1 was their confirmation of the problem, and their [false] diagnosis that it was coming from the rear brakes. I wasn't trying to burn bridges, so I indulged their theory and said "the Forum disagrees with you, but you do you." I even showed them the TSB, which they hadn't seen. They ordered parts for the rear brakes, no cost to me.

Appointment #2 was the installation of those rear brakes, and, to the surprise of no one here, the realization they hadn't solved the problem. So they ordered the parts for the front brakes according to the TSB and scheduled another appointment, no cost to me.

Appointment #3 was the installation of those new front brakes, no cost to me.

Thankfully, I never had issues with backorders. This whole process took just under a month. And now I can safely say - after two months of parking outside in the cold and the rain, after going through the carwash, and after dozens of drives after periods of inactivity - that this squeal is not happening anymore. Could be the change of scenery, or just a lucky good batch of parts, or both.

Purchased vehicle in September 2025, it has 4,600 miles on the clock. Have had Toyotas for 35 years now and this is the ONLY one that has brakes squeaking when in reverse. Never in forward, just reverse. Won’t seem to go away no matter what. Anyone else having this issue?

Many other posts on the subject and a TSB from Toyota. Not impacting me yet but I keep it garaged.

do a quick search and you will find.
I believe some had the work done as described in the TSB but had the issue again.
Good luck and find a good dealer.

Look, Toyota clearly dropped the ball on elements testing. I was just picking up the slack.

If it makes anyone feel any better they just updated the tsb again but don’t get your hopes up it now includes 2026 models lol. Fucking dumb ass Toyota. I am still dealing with the squealing since March after two tsb attempts and taking them to arbitration… whatever. https://www.nhtsa.gov/?nhtsaId=11026320

the brake squeal is a non-functional issue so some are choosing to wait closer to the 20,000 miles oil change and having them throw the new brakes on then for free to get the most out of the original. I personally had them fix it at my first oil change (5,000 miles) and havent had a squeal since. Just a heads up though, they will need to confirm the issue and only then do they order the replacement parts. I was under the impression they were fixing it at my first appointment since its a know TSB so I dropped the car off before work, was shuttled to work and back at the end of the day, just for them to tell me "yup it squeaks... we ordered the repair kit and itll be here in 3 weeks".

I've been waiting two months for them to get the parts to fix my squealing. Mine's garage kept too and still squeals EVERY time I back up now, not just when I first back up in the morning.

You got a 50/50 shot of getting it fixed via the tsb. I have had mine since March and it’s made god dam awful noise since the following day and Toyota has official stopped helping me. Oh well some people are ok with getting it I am not. Haven’t had any luck finding anything aftermarket. I’ve called 3 brake shops all have said they would need to get parts from the dealer. They just updated the tsb to include 2026 4Runners so they still have problems.

I brought up the TSB during my first oil and filter change, and they just said "yes". They told me that they've already done a few and they will honor the TSB without diagnosing my problem.

I am in Northern California and they had the parts in the week after they scheduled my service.

I was surprised the dealership was able to get the parts, considering that it's on back order for some parts of the country.

Thanks to this thread, I had this TSB fix completed yesterday.

Sometimes the dealers can use the tsb kits for the other models with the same issue so your don’t have to wait. Example, tundras have the same problem with brake noise but has had the issue since at least 2024 so more of those kits are available and use the same parts so dealerships can use those to help.
