logged in user sub thread/forum sorting?

so why does a logged in user the main thread lists show the last reply as the top entry instead of a unread thread ? see pic below

shouldnt it sort unread threads at the top of the sub forum/thread instead of a already read thread?

also why does the main page show sub forums as unread but the thread it lists is not even the unread thread within that sub forum. example exterior modifcations sub forum shows an unread thread and lists "air dam removal" but if i go into that sub forum the unread thread is "trailhunter/ trd pro mudflaps"

this is counter to most other website forums
