It's finally here! I had a 2022 4Runner that I put a 2" bilstein suspension lift on, some 33's, cut the bumper, metal front bumper, etc. When the new ones were announced I wasn't 100% sold on the looks but the interior looked so much better. Add that to the better gas mileage, more horsepower and more torque and it feels like a winner on paper. I was lucky enough to get ahold of one of the TRD ORP's that was coming into a dealer here and it happens to be Everest green.
I wanted the I-Force hybrid platform and I wanted a TRD ORP and here we are.
I bought the car brand new from the dealer, argued over the markup nonsense and they eventually took it off but I did buy the car sight unseen. Here's the day I brought it home.
Still wasn't sold on the look but man the seats, interior and quality of ride was fantastic. Now I've put 500 miles on it and this is where we are at now:
Took the insanely silly looking curtain off the front, installed the TRD Pro skid plate, swapped the wheels and tires out with some 18x9 Fuel Off Road Coverts with some 275/70R-18 Nitto Terra G3's (I wanted a tire that wasn't E load and these fit the bill). They are just a bit louder than the stock tires which is perfectly fine. They ride great and I love how they look.
I have some wescott running boards that are being made (6-8 weeks out I believe) and I bought a rough country 1.5-2" front lift/level kit but haven't installed it yet. I was just going to have a shop do it but they mentioned it being $700 for the install and that seems insane for how simple the instructions look. Eventually I'll decided on a roof rack and whether I'm going to put lights on the top of it or not and will most likely upgrade the suspension at some point.
I haven't read a ton on the I-force max platform on here as it seems like they came out after the non hybrid platforms.
Throught 500 miles here are my thoughts (taking into consideration I came from the 5th gen platform too):
The car rides SO much better than the 5th gen platform. The seats are a HUGE improvement and so is most of the interior. Some of the nooks and crannies they've created in the middle of the front seats are kind of odd, I'm not even sure what they expect people to put in them as digging shit out of them is annoying from time to time BUT the infotainment/screen are great, audio is pretty damn good and I love the removable speaker on the front dash. That back seats recline and fold down and there is plenty of space in the back for me even with the batteries. I usually keep my golf clubs in the car and they fit better in this than they did my 5th gen.
The engine... This was the risk in my opinion. It seems like they haven't had many issues since Feb 2023 with the Tacoma on this platform so I took the chance on the hybrid. The power/torque on this car is awesome. Running it on 93 octane in sport mode and the car feels great (even without beating on it under the 1,000 mile break in). I'm not getting anywhere near stated MPG unfortunately, even in ECO the car says it's getting 18 MPG (almost 100% city driving at this point) and in sport it's staying around 18 mpg as well. The power/torque/responsiveness is such a breath of fresh air coming from the 5th gen platform. The only real downside I've experienced so far is the clutches with the hybrid. It's not super smooth in stop and go situations. You can feel it releasing every time. I'm about 100% sure this could be fixed with software so I'm hoping eventually Toyota or aftermarket with have TCU tune or something along those lines to fix it.
All in all I'm extremely happy with the car and look forward to taking it anywhere and everywhere I go.
