I have a new TRD Off-Road. I have driven it only for a hundred miles or so, because I have spend most of my time reading the manual.

There is one thing that I have not been able to figure out. The Safety Sense 3.0 features (PCS, LTA, LDA, PDA and so on) may be potentially useful on the highway, but the manual lists a bunch of situations where they should be turned off. Most importantly off-road driving. I have not been able to find any way to turn them all off in one swoop, only individually. That's a lot of clicking. I thought of getting the Toyota app and setting up fake vehicle user profiles such as 'Highway' and 'Off-Road', but I doubt it would work as they want every profile associated with a physical driver.

Has anyone found a solution for this? What do you do if you switch between off-road and highway on a regular basis, or any other of the host of conditions where Toyota wants you to turn all that stuff off?

a bunch of Toyotas
put it in trail mode, it disables cruise control for one thing*, it might
also disable the other stuff

* pretty sure it does. SR5 here I could be talking out my arse...
try trail mode on road and then try to enable cruise
(or be in cruise and enter trail mode, cruise should shut off)

*on all new rav4 trail mode disables cruise

EDIT: I may be way off base. I think crawl control is the only
mode that disables higher functions. but try it all and see

Thanks, I will try. Cruise is not the worst problem, that would normally be off anyway. The others, such as PDA or LDA are worse, because they might brake on you or mess with your steering if the rig decides you are not driving gentlemanly enough.

MTS trail modes can only be set with 4Hi/Lo engaged. Toyota also wants you to turn it off if you go through a car wash (I wouldn't), or go on a ferry (I might), or loaded on a tow truck (I sure as heck hope I won't). In those cases you would not have 4WD on.

The safest would be to have a TSS master switch or profile that could temporarily disable all these features and then return them to your previously set configuration. I don't think anything like that exists. IMO it should.

I agree it would be nice to have a single toggle for all of them, but I don't believe there is one. As far as I know the only one you can't permanently disable is the Pre-Collision System -- this is a requirement for assisted cruise control and I'm pretty sure it resets itself every time the car is turned off.

I have disabled Lane Trace Assist and Proactive Driving Assist. These stay off permanently and do not leave icons on the dash. Can't stand that crap, don't want it, it's off and I never have to be reminded of it, fortunately. You can still use lane assist when you turn it on during assisted cruise with the button on the steering wheel, but I find it pretty badly implemented -- bounces between lines and beeps at me constantly for not holding the steering wheel even when I definitely am. Ugh.

I also turned off the Parking Support Brake for a while, because it's way oversensitive. I've had it slam on the brakes when I'm trying to parallel park because a pedestrian was on the sidewalk 10 feet away. It also goes nuts if you have a bike hitch. This one stays off as well and doesn't reset itself, but it pops up a warning every time you start the truck and leaves a permanent icon on the dash. Very annoying, but I don't usually have a bike hitch attached so have resorted to just leaving it on for now.

There is no single button that you could hit to shut off

tow/haul mode turns off quite a bit

also you can turn off some of them in the MID display settings

also switching from assisted cruise mode to normal cruise mode turns some off

i know lane tracing feature i hate with a passion, have it turned off.

and since cruise control is always on either assisted or normal, i always switch to normal mode and it turns off LTA and distance and radar
