  1. My paint… what is this?!

I believe it's an undercoating under the paint. I could be wrong. Is it on both sides?
  2. Trailhunter vs TRD pro

I have a pro on order that maybe will come in this year, maybe not. I doubt you will be able to test drive both of them side by side to determine which one has the ride you prefer. Even if you could it would be difficult to get the dealer to adjust the PRO's shocks to try out each setting. So...
  3. Do DIY oil changes impact Carfax value?

I believe it's just what the tech or the person in the service department enters. I doubt the dealer or mechanic gets paid to enter it by Carfax so it's accuracy should be questioned. I have never done it but I would expect that it's one of those paperwork things that the quicker it's done the...
  4. Trouble with balancing tires

Back in the day when I was really into 4 wheeling a friend bought a set of mud tires. I forget the brand but one of them just wouldn't balance right. After going around and around the tire shop finally said the truth. The tire was made poorly. To avoid throwing a new tire away the mfg does a...
  5. Why does Trailhunter have a snorkel but TRD Pro does not?

Lets be honest. It's just for looks. The number of people actually will use it as intended are few. If you want the look then just buy the external parts. Maybe in the southwest desserts it's useful but in New England dust just isn't an issue but they still sell TH here. The real question...
  6. Do DIY oil changes impact Carfax value?

Have you ever looked at the Carfax report? It just reports what has been entered. If a tech enters the miles wrong it gets saved. Carfax doesn't try to fix it, it doesn't try to identify it and let potential buyers know that Joe Fat Fingers made a mistake. I suspect most people could care...
  7. Oil Change Interval. Yes I know it has been covered over and over. My two cents.

Because people like to plan things out. 10k is an easy number. So is 5k. Back in the day I can remember it was 3500 miles which wasn't as easy so oil change places would put a sticker on the windshield to remind people. With 10k it's simply every time your odometer turns another 10k. People...
  8. Oil Change Interval. Yes I know it has been covered over and over. My two cents.

Do what feels good to you. If you're worried about oil life then letting your engine idle after use before shutting it off will do more than early oil changes. This is one of the oldest arguments about engine oil that I can remember. My 90 Celica alltrac turbo said to change the oil at 5000...
  9. DIRTY POWER!!! - Power issues on AUX switches (don't run sensitive electronics like radios off AUX switches)

It's most likely the alternator. Back in the day if you added an amp to drive bigger speakers the cheap ones would whine like crazy. A simple filter would cut it out. Sounds like Starlink and Midland decided they weren't needed (maybe to save room). If you have a scope you could verify it...
  10. Disable Auto Shut-down if you don't push the Ignition Button after a Remote Start

It could be worse. My wife's Rav4 with the factory remote start locks the doors. As soon as you put your hand on the handle to open it the engine shuts off. There's nothing you can do (I didn't look into disabling it. If it could be done it can't be done by owners). At least now you don't...
  11. Will E Load 34 inch tires stress the Gas Turbo 4

The only thing you need to worry about is fuel mileage. The other is the lighter the tire the easier it will be to get a flat (in general). Lighter means thinner. Is it much of a concern, probably not. But I have gotten flats on my driveway due to sharp rocks puncturing the tire after the...
  12. Fox 2.0 vs 2.5 to improve ride quality?

I would think the end cap coming out like that would be a sign that they were extended too far and the piston hit the cap. I doubt that's possible with stock IFS. Even with a 2" lift I would like to think the travel length of the shock would still be longer than the suspension travel. Most...
  13. Any way to increase range of key fob?

My 2013 Rav4 had crappy range. My garage is maybe 75 feet from my house and to use the factory remote starter I had to open my front door to push the buttons. Even then it took two or three attempts. I think part of it is where the antenna is. I've found parking at different angles helped...
  14. Called purchasing dealer about a VSA (Vehicle Service Agreement)...turns out I have one. I don't remember it being discussed.

Think about that. You didn't even come close to using up the original factory warranty. No 3 years, no 36,000 miles. So that VSA wasn't on the hook for anything yet. However you paid almost 20% for insurance that hadn't taken effect yet.
  15. Called purchasing dealer about a VSA (Vehicle Service Agreement)...turns out I have one. I don't remember it being discussed.

What bugs me is that when buying a new vehicle these contracts start. Not after the factory warranty starts or the 2 year 24k service that's included when buying new. The only one I bought then cancelled a day later the dealer made it sound like it was a 5 year 100k mile plan. Really, to me...
  16. 2027 4Runner Order Guide out yet?

If I understand it correctly that order sheet is just a way to narrow down which vehicles that are in the build phase might meet the customer's requirements. Toyota may use the data to modify future packages. Say a million people request the same items then Toyota may say "let's build them to...
  17. Cameras turning on at stoplight

I can't help you with this but it reminded me of something. My 2013 with the smart key always worked fine. But when I got a 2016 it had chrome handles. One winter it rained then froze. The door handles had ice n them and kept locking and unlocking as I drove down the road. If I had to guess...
  18. 5 Sets of 2 Beeps

Every day I get reminded why I loved my 88 4Runner. None of these stupid reminders. Crack the sunroof to let a bit of heat escape while shopping and it beeps to tell you. Doesn't matter that I just did it a couple seconds ago. Toyota wants me to be sure I knew I did it. I'm wondering how...
  19. Toyota OEM floor mats and one year review

Back in the day Toyota floor mats were great. Thick as all hell and would take more thana decade to wear. When I bought a 2013 Rav4 the mats that came with it were like Chinese specials. A fraction of the quality. After a couple years I replaced them with something like weather techs. Now...
  20. Bad CV axle angle

The whole point of a diff drop is to transfer some of the extreme CV axle angle to the drive shaft going from the transfer case to the diff. The down side is you lose a bit of clearance that you gained by doing the lift in the front. But normally the pumpkin on the rear axle is lower so it's...
