yeah, you can typically set (or accidentally re-set) the open position.
probably have to open the back lift gate all the way and then push and hold the 'latch button' until it beeps and resets the open position to the highest. you might want to check the manual if it requires a double push or...

as far as i have seen, just the platinum, limited & trailhunter badging is moved to the lower front door.
the rest remain on the C pillar, save for the TRDPro which has none on the side, and embossed lettering on the back hatch/door
could simply be the detaching air dam issue, which is an obvious growing issue. as much as Toyota reluctantly put them on, not sure they want them flinging off on the highway, or droves of new owners returning to complain at the dealerships
