  1. Bigger Brakes

I can certainly see why you're happy with the big brake kit, especially given how you're using the truck. I think part of what has to be considered is the engineered reserve Toyota built into the factory brake system. Larger/heavier tires, bumper, winch, rack and other added weight are already...
  2. Do you have a vibration in your 4R? Dealer having issues diagnosing? (Blaming tires?)

My OEM tire is the Open Country AT3 and they don't rumble at all. . . And the MDX comparison is even less informative. The Acura MDX is a unibody, pavement-oriented luxury crossover. The sixth-gen 4Runner is a body-on-frame SUV designed around substantially different requirements. Of course...
  3. This is going to get you tin foil hat people in a uproar

You don't have to sign into your TV. You can also block its access to the internet. Mine hasn't been connected since 2014 and the other, 2025. I've never signed into any account on either. My printer is also denied internet access. My browser is oriented to privacy and all cookies and history is...
  4. Do you have a vibration in your 4R? Dealer having issues diagnosing? (Blaming tires?)

Some may be be surprised, but persistent vibrations can actually be measured pretty easily with a phone accelerometer app or an inexpensive vibration sensor. The point is to use the same device (can't reasonably compare two non-precision device results if you do change devices later), mount it...
  5. This is going to get you tin foil hat people in a uproar

I do, if simply because I can choose and see what Alphabet has on me. I can download and see it. As I said, what they're actually doing is a sperate question and problem. I don't really know what any large company does in the background. I can choose to interact with them or not. I can't choose...
  6. This is going to get you tin foil hat people in a uproar

Because there is no way to view the data Toyota collects nor express declaration of where it's used or by whom. I do trust that data is not collected if I opt out, which is why I opted out. You can choose what history Google saves, you can choose which apps you want to interact with. You don't...
  7. Hybrid Real World MPG (iForce Max) - post your model, specs, general driving conditions, results:

Into the third tank, OBC says 22.8 mpg currently.
  8. This is going to get you tin foil hat people in a uproar

I can choose to use Android Auto, Google Maps, Car Play, etc. or not. I can choose what is shared or stored or saved. Whether those choices are honored is a separate question. To use any of Toyota's vaunted cloud services, it seems like you are allowing a lot of your data to be processed...
  9. This is going to get you tin foil hat people in a uproar

Wow. Any one piece isn't necessarily dangerous, maybe not even onerous (I mean, it is absolutely wrong and invasive), but you put all of the discrete information they gather today and it represents a significant privacy concern
  10. Audio upgrade on JBL sound system - sound deadening doors + sub

Oh, I'm sure it's thinner. Gotta meet those efficiency goals, get weight down any way they can.
  11. Looking for information about the ARB 3/4 rack

Roof rack information was included in my owner's manual packet along with a Trailhunter skid plate supplement.
  12. Audio upgrade on JBL sound system - sound deadening doors + sub

Can you quantify what you mean by “aluminum everywhere”? Which components on the 6th gen are aluminum that were not on the 5th gen?
  13. Bug Shield / Hood Protector -- pros and cons?

I don't want to stick one on with 3M double sidedtape. That's the problem I have with them. They protect the hood and windshield. It's not perfect, though. I cracked the windshield on my X5 and the rock that did it hit about six inches from the back edge of the hood. The 4Runner hood is much...
  14. My 4Runner was stolen. PSA: install kill switch / anti-theft system

You can't really have an OBD-II port lock doing its job while also having the Ring camera plugged into that same port. And I wouldn't put too much confidence in either one as theft prevention. Most OBD port locks are primarily another obstacle; depending on the design, someone who knows what...
  15. Installed: Aspire Wide View Side Mirrors and Brite Box (High Beam, Low Beam, & Fog Light Mod)

Yeah, the more I read into it, it requires a standalone switch. Seems like a lot of money for a switch. If you have any automotive electrical acumen, it is elementary to make this modification yourself. Seems a bit "stuck on" rather than an OEM like solution.
  16. Trailhunter - wheel vibration

I didn't know before delivery, but looking at the OE OC AT3 on my Trailhunter, it's very clear the tread isn't as deep as a regular tire. Hopefully, they'll get me through this winter. I'll evaluate them and get the Nokian Outpost nAT if they don't perform.
  17. Trailhunter - wheel vibration

I agree that the OE Open Country A/T III is an OE-specific tire and shouldn't automatically be treated as identical to the retail A/T III. But I think you're going a little farther than the evidence supports by saying the OE tires are “known to cause vibration” and that replacing them with the...
  18. Do you have a vibration in your 4R? Dealer having issues diagnosing? (Blaming tires?)

Trailhunter with OE Open Country and it's as smooth as my X5. More body movement, softer suspension, but no vibration, all the way up to 80+ mph. If you're experiencing this issue, frequency analysis is probably the only way to determine if there is an issue and what it is. How many times will...
  19. Default Display - Can it be changed

Surprising it would be so different among trims and equipment. I've seen the Connect screen about three times since I've owned my Trailhunter, which admittedly is only for a very short period of time. So few that I can't really say how or why it appears. Maybe it's when I switch from connected...
  20. Can’t find the transmission drain plug

I plan to do mine at 5k miles (transmission filter, fluid drain and refill) along with the rest of the drivetrain and then the transmission again at 25k, 50k, 75k etc. replacing the filter additionally at 50k. 100k, 150k, etc. Transfer case and differentials every 50k.
