Correct...the pump isn't necessary once the valve is installed, but I used the pump to 1) See how much oil the extractor can remove b/c that is another valid way of changing the oil easily and 2) Not make a mess once when I cracked open the drain pan to install the valve.

This was the break-in oil change at 640 miles, so I didn't remove the oil filter this time around. In order to install the Fumoto valve, I obviously had to remove the drain plug. I used the extractor to remove almost all of the oil b/c I didn't want to make a mess when cracking open the drain...
