The gas pedal is mentioned as a "button" to use during a few procedures, instead on the 4runner you have to pull the high beam. This is only for a few tasks and not related to normal operation. Look at the second link I posted to understand what that means.

Its good practice to disconnect the battery ground when messing with electrical, it takes 10 seconds. Even if the headlights are powered off, these are modern vehicles and may have CAN bus wires in that harness. Better be safe than sorry.

Did your dealership add a gps tracker? Commonly installed on your ODB-II connector using a piggyback cable. It would look seamless until you pull the kick panel down.
These pictures show the handle area you may want to focus on. There are two bolt holes circled near each end of the handle location. You can see the amount of material I have in the general area, I don't have a handle rattle.
