Yeah, I see similar on mine. I wonder if flare gasket would seal that better. A seal comes with after market flares from Rough Country etc for full size trucks. You can get it on amazon. My question is do the higher end models have the same issue, and if so what is Toyota Japan doing about it.

I would have to imagine trim shouldn't matter when it comes to QC.

I feel like people think SR5 = cheapset so they care less vs TRD Pro = most expensive, so they take more time on them.

I am sure the assembly lines are the same with the difference being what crap is installed/not installed.

I could be wrong though.

I don't think Japan works like that, but I don't work there.

field rep told me that all other 4runners painted or black flares are made of a stiffer material ,stiffer means no bowing sr5 gets the thinner material .everyone has to put in a complaint to toyota ,they know there’s an issue but no complaints means to them it’s not important.

That would be a shame if that is true.

well i have the painted flares. the rears are tight along the whole leading edge.

both front passenger flares are tight except around the same sharp curve point of the wheel well.

the gap is maybe a fingernail width along the leading and trailing curve of the wheel well.

this picture is facing the drivers outside rear view mirror, middle of the drivers front wheel hub

So from installing Rough Country hard plastic OE flares on my 21 Tundra this is what I learned. The RC flares came with the rubber gasket to go along the top edge. When all is installed they fit flush and sealed properly. After some time, car washes and vibration they would start to come away from the fenders in places. That was even with provided rubber seals. I would then have to loosen the 10mm bolts holding them on and readjust them to sit flush. A few weeks or a month later they would start to pull away from the fenders and leave a 1-2mm gap. I just learned to live with it. The flares on the 6th gen 4Runner have clips bolts and push style pins I believe. All of those are under presure fighting each other, and this is why the flares have a wave to them. It could probably be adjusted or something trimmed internally, but I would not go to the trouble.

Hello ,Iwas a proud owner of a 25 SR5 supersonic red , but now not so proud.Have had fender flare issues dealer agreed and changed flares new ones were as bad as factory ones ,dealership told me “nothing. we can do call toyota .After contacting toyota ,sending pictures and returning to dealership to meet with there regional representative they told me yes indeed there is a manufacturing defect but there is nothing they can do . Ok mad as hell but I will live with it.

Now this is where i’ve started to loose it ,have the brake squeal issue, went on waiting list for a month .Parts arrived and were replaced, brakes squealing as bad as they originally were, contacted dealership and was told nothing they can do call toyota. My first thought was here we go again , there response was take it for a second opinion, that maybe that dealership didn’t have the correct knowledge of how to fix . I politely told them we are talking about brake replacement not a lightbulb replacement, how can they not have qualified techs for that . So i’m off to find another toyota dealership. This so so sad and frustrating .Has anyone else had squealing after replacement per the TBS.

There's a TSB for the brake squeals
