Hey everyone,

I’ve got the new i-Force 4-cylinder 4Runner and I’m noticing a light vibration or rubbing feeling once I hit around 70 mph or higher. It’s not bad, but enough to feel through the steering wheel and floorboard. Tires are balanced and alignment checks out.

Just wondering if anyone else with the i-Force 4-cyl is feeling the same thing or if it might be something I should have checked.

same, and same response from dealer. though they said the tires were over psi (i got it with 43 psi, dropped it down to 36 psi, they dropped it to 32 psi, i raised it to 33 psi but i may raise it again for winter since we get into the double digits below zero, 35-36 psi)

but then again i really thinks its the crappy grandtrek tires, hated them on my 2014 limited due to utter crap performance in ND winters. replaced them after 1 winter with defender ltx m/s (right now you can only get the m/s2 versions).

i think they are the problem. below 70 mph they are just fine, but above 71+ mph they vibrate, which means the balance is off or they are out of round and were not road forced correctly.

i will have to suffer the winter since i need to get new tires on the 23 tundra, the wife is complaining about the winter performance on her current duratrac's and noise since they are about 1/2 life (which are know to get loud after 1/2 life)

gave the choice to the wife between the defender ltx m/s2 or the dueler a/t ascent (they have more of a off road tire look but are on road performance oriented)

Good stuff. Mine is very mild - its like a mild buzz/vibration. I did check and my tire pressue was high, especially for the cold weather, 39 PSI. I am going to bring it down to 33. Give is a try before I take it in.

It wasn't the tires for me. You guys should read this thread:
Do you have a vibration in your 4R? Dealer having issues diagnosing? (Blaming tires?)

the thread you posted, the vibration is different than what i have or the OP has i think. its just a slight vibration vs the more violent vibration that thread has.

mine ebbs and flows on the slight vibration i have at 71+ mph. it varies in intensity above 71, gets a little worse at 73 and 75 but never is too annoying, at least for me.

from the sound of it in that thread, its way more violent on vibration than my slight one i have at 75.

I had a vibration on my TH. The dealer replaced 2 tires, which Toyo tires said they are told to do so when this happens. It fixed it somewhat then Toyota washed their hands of it and said to contact Toyo tires. I did, and Toyo gave me a discount to get new tires at Discount Tires. The problem went away - 100% vibration free now. I replaced them with retail version, not oem tires.
This was my experience. I would not continue to go back to the dealer. Just call the tire manufacturer, file a warranty claim and be done with the issue...

Mine was not violent. A mild vibration that is tolerable, until you go on a long road trip and realized you just paid a lot of money for a vehicle that should at drive smooth on smooth highway roads. Mine was as you describe after 70mph. However, if you have a place to get it over 80mph, it definitely got worse. The new 4runner they gave me now rides so smooth on the highway, it confirms for sure the original one has a problem. They had tried 3 different sets of tires, including switching to Goodyear highway tires. Same vibration. They also tried other rims. Same vibration. I bought the Goodyear tires out of pocket so they put them on my second new 4runner for me and it runs smooth, so I know for sure it was not the tires. Btw, the shop foreman did all the testing and switching parts and he said it still vibrated, so it was not even just my opinion. I told him to drive as far and fast as he wanted. I was not even there for those tests.
